What is Butter and How is it Made?
Butter is a dairy product made by churning cream to separate the butterfat from the buttermilk. It has a rich, creamy texture and is commonly used for cooking, baking, and spreading. The process begins with fresh cow’s milk, which is separated into cream and skim milk. The cream is then pasteurised to kill any harmful bacteria. After pasteurisation, it’s churned - either traditionally by hand or mechanically - causing the fat molecules to clump together. This process produces butter, and a byproduct called buttermilk. The butter is then washed, salted (if desired), and shaped into blocks for packaging and distribution.
